Senior students of FG13d participated in a symposium titled „Protestant Reformation, Politics and Us“ in Halle on 22 October.
The state institute for school development LISA had invited 100 senior students from grammar schools in the areas of Eisleben, Quedlinburg, Magdeburg and Wittenberg.
Together with educational experts Members of Parliament Mr. Gebhardt (Die Linke), Mrs. Koch-Kupfer (CDU) and Mr. Miesterfeldt (SPD), students discussed their presentations.
There had been workshops on the relation between language and Protestant Reformation, on the up-to-dateness of theologian and resistance fighter Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) or on the possible introduction of a basic income scheme in Germany. There was another wokshop on definitions of the term Liberty and Freedom, in which students acted out their thoughts and visions. Each workshop was guided by a teacher, and there was another one for teachers on Luther`s Proposals on the “Freedom of Christians” from 1520.
As mentioned earlier, all results were introduced and discussed by students, all participants and Members of Parliament. In the discussion, students were directly addressed by the guests, thus challenged to express their own ideas and opinions about the topics focussed on.
The symposium as a whole turned out be be a useful kind of experience for our students and at the same time our contribution to the motto of the year 2014 “Protestant Reformation and Politics” .
